Victoria square Belfast: Mall and the glass dome

Post by musket on Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:03 pm

A few years ago a new shopping mall was under construction

underground car parks and topped with a 35 metre diameter glass dome

I visited it today and took a lot of photo's

first two were taken a few years ago when the building site was under construction

    inside it today...

A spiral stairway or two elevators goes up to the gallery so I went up and had a look around

I'll post more when I get around to the PP and resizing

loading the site today has been very much hit and miss for whatever reason
and when it loads it seems slow to respond..maybe forum updates going on

This seems the kind of building that calls for a fisheye lens. Id like to see more of the floor area as well as the dome. Perhaps a vertical panorama. Do you know if each triangle is a separate piece of glass? I like the shots. Looking forward to the rest.

Bynx: You could be right, an assortment of lenses wouldn't go amiss here Smile

The Mall is multilevelled with escalators and bridges linking sections
together, the glass dome is made up of triangular separate glass pieces.

The sailcloth on the dome moves around in sync with the sun
    as a direct sunshade Smile

Ahhh, now those shots of the interior are nice. They remind me of an HDR I took of our Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto. I picked an early Sunday morning when the stores were closes and just a few people were wandering the empty halls. I managed to get a good HDR. I enjoy walkng around places like this for a couple hours. Even more so if I have money to spend. I think Id have fun here. Thanks Musket.

Bynx: thanks again, today was forecast sunny, so I thought
I'd venture out with the camera, crocus's were showing today
as well, maybe an early spring, I took 77 shots before the
card ran out, I had mistakenly set it for raw and jpg Embarassed
the 1gb card should have kept me going for a lot longer Very Happy

mcliu: Thanks for the comments, at least it got me out of the
house for a few hours, wandering about and trying to remove
the rust from my unused shooting skills
    ...................................shotgun6 lol!

my own favourite is the first shot of the gallery, it looks like some kind of space platform Smile Slideshow

Very nice series musket. I like the way the old and the new work together. The designers of the mall did a good job.
