Post by Mugmar on Sat Dec 13, 2008 1:56 am

As promised, here is a full moon shot taken tonight. It was a very clear crisp night Shot on a tripod, 1/125sec @f9 400mm and some cropping.

Very nice Mugar. I particularly like the detail showing in the 2 o'clock position around the rim.

Thank you everyone. When ever I shoot the moon, I use the RAW settings and most times convert to B&W. This time it was not needed.
Bynx, I am really happy with the way all the detail came out on this shot. I have seen so many moon shots that are over exposed. I have found that a light meter and/or auto settings don't work well. I start at about ISO 200, 1/100sec F8-9 and work from there.

Ive been working on making myself a connection gyzmo between my camera lens and the eyepiece of a 10 x 50 binoculars. Im looking forward to seeing what I can get out of that. Im thinking that the picture wont have much contrast and will be soft. But hopefully Im wrong and it will work well.

Good moon. I think I am giving up night shots, at least in my back yard. Last night I had a visitor and the roar like growl scared the devil out of me. it was very close and most likely a mountain lion. Fortunately, I was right near the door. i went flying in with my camera and slammed the door after me. Had I been at my usualy shooting spot, I would have been his meal.
